I'd like to take this time to write about a new product that I LOVE! I was turned onto this line of jewelry from a co-worker and I am so glad she told me about it! It is call the Alex and Ani Collection. They have bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and rings. All of the jewelry is made in the good 'ole USA, which makes me happy. The idea of buying something American made and putting money into our own economy makes me feel good. All of their jewelry is beautiful which makes it very easy for me to buy it too!

The Alex and Ani brand has been featured in magazines like Elle, Glamour, and Vogue. Their jewelry comes with charms that are made to inspire and be unique to the person wearing them. They are made with recycled material and are eco-friendly which is AWESOME! All of the jewelry is infused with positive energy as well. I was going to try and paraphrase how they do it but I think their website says it best...

ALEX AND ANI – POSITIVE ENERGY

Alex and Ani embraces the power of positive energy as a core company belief. We have made it our mission to share the benefits of positive energy through the unique beauty and symbolism of our products.

Inspired by the wisdom of ancient thinkers, Alex and Ani researched the most effective methods of infusing our products with the positive energy that ancients refer to as vital force.

In the cutting edge field of subtle energy, scientists have developed technologies that have the ability to mix the subtle energy of the universe with vital force.

Subtle energy is still working its way up within the current scientific paradigm. Ancient and modern traditions refer to human energies as many names such as chi, prana, etheric energy, life force, zero point energy, homeopathic resonance, etc.

The research on energy reveals that it contributes to many measurable phenomena not currently explained by conventional science. While we may not physically see this energy, we can see and feel its effects.

Vital force is understood to be the key principle or animating force within living beings. In French Philosopher and Nobel Prize Recipient Henri Bergson's theory, vital force is independent of physical and chemical forces, regarded as being causative in the evolution and development of living organisms.

Alex and Ani’s revolutionary process of blending vital force and universal energy into each product is an important step in our mission of spreading positive energy worldwide.

I currently own two single charm bracelets.. An anchor and a compass. The anchor symbolizes hope, tranquility, and stability. The compass symbolizes objective, direction, and transition. I'm not going to get into the reasons why I picked these two to wear but they do mean something to me. I find that whenever I'm thinking about something, or trying to make a decision, or just start feeling a little anxious about something I simply look at them or run my fingers over them and it reminds me to take a step back and relax. I know it sounds corny and some make think its my mind playing tricks on me but I feel like they are special. Wearing something that is a constant reminder of who you are as an individual and inspires you to be the person you want to be is a pretty cool concept!

Congrats to all of the Princesses who ran in the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon this morning! I was on twitter all morning watching the pace times, the pictures from the course, and tweets from the spectators who were cheering them on. it's gotten me really pumped to not only keep up with my training for the 5K during wine and dine weekend but to also start thinking about doing a half next year! :) I don't think i'll be ready for the wine and dine half but I definitely think I can do either the princess half or the wine and dine half next year!

I've been making some serious progress in my 5K training. So far my best time has been 3.1 miles in 39:00mins. And I have a picture to prove it! (Yes I am that freak that you see at the gym that takes pictures with their phone) I had to push really really hard to get the 39:00mins but normally i'm always somewhere in between 39:00 and 40:00mins. For not being a runner I think thats pretty good!

I've decided once I get comfortable with the 3.1miles I'm going to start doing the Jeff Galloway program for getting ready for a half. I feel like if I can do a half marathon, just one, I'll feel totally and completely accomplished. I will be honest in saying that sometimes I have a tendency to start things and not finish them. It's like the second I start getting into something, I become afraid of failure and just stop before I can fail. This is something i'm going to make sure I do, and see through!

Again Congratulations to all the runners who made it through the Princess Half today! You are all a major inspiration!!

Tonight adam and I are having dinner with my dad before he leaves for florida. Dad will be gone for a month and I will miss him quite a bit. In honor of dinner I decided I should make something extra yummy and special.

I thought of what florida means to us and florida is bright and sunny and always somewhere we like to be to celebrate! What better time to test out this awesome recipe!

The recipe was pretty simple and the outcome was nothing short of scrumptious. Plus these cookies are adorable to look at, I'm always into presentation. Here is the recipe...

CAKE BATTER PUDDING COOKIES
1 1/2 sticks (or 3/4 cup) butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1 (3.4 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
3/4 cup yellow cake mix
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
2-1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
sprinkles

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Stir together flour, salt and baking soda and set aside.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars together.
Add in pudding package and cake mix and beat until well blended.
Add eggs and vanilla and mix until smooth.
Add flour mixture slowly until well incorporated.
Mix in sprinkles sprinkles.
Roll into 1" balls and place on greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350 F for 10-12 minutes.

Not only are they good but they would be perfect for any party, you could do pink and purple sprinkles for a little girls birthday party or greens and blues for a little boy. for us big kids you could do wedding colored sprinkles or do holiday colors. The possibilities are endless and they will be a hit at any event...even if it is just a dinner with family :)
Let me know if you try them out and how you liked them!

Sorry I haven't been around. Been laying low for a bit. First I was sick and then Adam was sick. Then we had some family issues that needed our full attention. But I'm back and ready to get back into my normal blogging routine.

In the past couple weeks a few cool things have happened. I got both vacations approved at work so our next cruise and trip to Disney for the 5k seem much more real now. We also decides that we will be staying at animal kingdom lodge again. And we picked an excursion for our Disney cruise.

Other than Disney stuff I've recently made some girly purchases that I totally love and want to share with all my girly friends :)

Give me a couple more days to catch up and I promise I will be back in the swing of things! Have a great weekends

Xoxo

What I think is so funny about our dogs is that I was the one who wanted Duke, and Adam was the one who wanted Toby, however that is not who the dogs picked as buddies. Adam and Duke are like two peas in a pod and are happy to sleep in all morning on the weekends and watch pawn stars every night cuddled on the couch. Toby and I are up every morning together at the crack of dawn, even on the weekends, and we are both pretty easily amused. This bit of information is very important to the rest of my story.

There are so many TV shows and article written about people who have lost tons of weight and got healthy. I look at those people and they give me motivation to get out there and work hard to get the beach body I really want, and to not feel winded when walking up a flight of stairs. Shows like "I used to be fat" and "the biggest loser" show at least one mental breakdown where the person trying to get fit "hits a wall". They always have supporters and trainers and nutritionists who are there pushing them and motivating them to keep going. But what about the rest of us?

Last Saturday it was a brisk 45 degrees and I decided that instead of running on the boring treadmill I would brave the cold and run the beach. My brother in law went out with us on Friday night and spent the night at our home. So as quietly as I could I got up at 7am. The only other member of our little family that was awake was Toby. Toby is very high energy and would play catch with you until you ended up needing your rotator cuff repaired. I thought for a moment and decided that it would be better (and safer) to bring Toby running with me. I put on my running gear and loaded him up in his harness and off we went to the beach.

I can't even tell you how bad of an idea this was. I couldn't believe how many people we on the beach boardwalk at 7am, on a Saturday, in JANUARY! Trust me when I tell you I love my dog and he is the sweetest thing in the whole world. Toby is my best friend and I can't imagine life without him. BUT, he is a horrible running buddy! He is just too social! He wanted to stop and say hi to everyone we passed, had to sniff every dogs butt that he came in contact with, and then when he remembered we were running would take off at sprinting speeds. I must have looked like a fool trying to be all runner-ish and fit as I'm trying to pull by 80 pound dog along for the ride.

I some how managed to run a mile but I was beat. I decided to turn back and run back to the car... at least I was getting in two miles right? On the way back we ran past an elderly women who had a tiny little white foo-foo dog with her. She took one look a my Shepherd/doberman mix and got very freaked out. I decided, against my better judgement, that the only thing I could do was to run on the actual beach. Everyone was on the boardwalk not the sand. This was horrible. Running in sand has to be one of the hardest things to do. On top of trying to keep breathing, Toby's new thing was "SEASHELL!" he stopped and smelled every seashell and every piece of seaweed that was in our path. I barely made it back to the car.

Toby jumped in the back seat and I got in. I looked at my runing app and I have only done 1.89miles and it took me almost 40mins! I felt so defeated, I was tired, sore, and frustrated. Toby, however, was grinning at me from the rearview mirror... he had the time of this life! When I got home the boys were awake and ready to go get breakfast. They both told me they were very proud that I actually got up and did it. This meant the world to me! I was feeling so bummed out that I didn't do the full 3 miles and that I couldn't even keep pace but you know what?? I made the effort!

So to those of you who are training, trying to get fit, or are just trying to get motivated... even if you have a terrible day don't stop! Just the fact that you had a bad day means that you tried and that you aren't happy with the results and are going to try it again! Be proud of that bad day!

Happy Saturday morning guys! I'm going to be working on a few posts for next week including one about the Disney Institute lecture that I went to but I want to devote more time into them and this weekend is alittle busy. Perfect time to share some more pictures, and stories about our Disney Cruise! Enjoy!!

Adam and I chose to do second dining. This means that every night we see whatever the first show is that night, and then head to dinner after. We normally aren't late eaters but this worked perfectly for us and we will be doing second dining again next cruise.

We got all dolled up and headed to go see "Twice Charmed". This is the story of what happens after cinderella marries prince charming. It was an amazing show and if you ever get the opportunity to check it out I strongly recommend it! I was funny, great effects, and the cast was phenomenal!

After dinner we went back into our room and found not one, but TWO towel creations. Oh of which was a fun sea turtle made with the pillow, extra blanket, towels, and Adam's sunglasses. The other creeped us out a bit... We had an angel hanging from a clothes hanger over our bed. Take from it what you will... I found it odd and so did our cruise buddies.

I have been, and always will be a soccer fan!

As a kid I played soccer up until I was 15. I was on a division 1 travel team and we were pretty darn good! When I got into high school my love for music outweighed my love of the sport and I decided to stick with band. As much as I cherish my band memories I still wish I played soccer.

Anyway, I was never into the MLS clubs because, well they weren't advertised and I honestly didn't know they existed. In 2006 I fell in love with the sport all over again during the world cup in Germany. I was a waitress in college at the time and spent most of my time watching the games at the bar in-between orders.

In 2010 I anticipated the world cup again. That year it took place in south Africa. I remembered how much I enjoyed the 06 world cup and I taped every game, downloaded the world cup widget to my work computer so I could get constant up dates, you name it I did it! The USA team did pretty well in that world cup and the commentators were discussing how the MLS was really gaining popularity in the states.

After the world cup ended I decided I couldn't wait another four years to see some soccer! I started watching the MLS games... Specifically my team! The new England revolution!

While its definitely not the same as the world cup, i thoroughly enjoy it! I watched every game last season. However, my issue with watching the games, and even the world cup for that matter, is that I'm usually watching alone. Nobody likes it here in the USA! Atleast nobody I know! Somewhere there is a disconnect here, so many kids play soccer and we have a term referring to "soccer moms" but at some point we forget it. And I don't understand it.

Either way let me share with you my amazing thing.... I met the vice president of the new England revolution!!! He was super nice and we talked a lot about the team, games, ect. One of the best things about the MLS and everyone involved with it is their love of the game and the amazing people they all are. During so many games last season I saw ads for revolution children's soccer camps or charitable events. This league is so approachable and appreciative of its fans! That's not to say others aren't but I think there is something to be said about a sport that is not as popular as others still reaching out into the community.

I will be seeing the VP again soon and I'm looking forward to talking with him again. It was awesome having that conversation with someone. This year I am definitely going to make it to foxboro stadium to see them play, even if I do have to go alone! I wouldn't mind meeting some other die hard revolution fans :)

Do you watch soccer? Why or why not? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Xoxo

I've been pretty busy the past week and I'm going to continue to be busy for the rest of this week. I swear there are some weeks where nothing is going on, and other weeks I feel like I can't catch up! This will be a quick post but I will be posting more through out the week :)

I've been continuing my training for the Disney 5K and I'm doing really well! I'm up to running 0.75 walking 0.25, running 0.75, walking 0.25, running 0.75, and walking 0.25. So I'm doing the 3 miles and it's getting easier and easier! I'm getting so excited about running in Disney and I can't wait for registration to open.

I am also starting to think about booking our resort this time. Adam and I always rent DVC points and i'm thinking to decide which resort we should stay at. I'm torn between staying at Old Key West, trying out Bay Lake Towers, or maybe doing Kidani Village. What are your thoughts? Where should we try this year?

Oh and one more thing before I go inhale a quick dinner... On Thursday I am going with my office to a big conference in Boston. My boss signed us up for a course with, get this, THE DISNEY INSTITUTE!!! It is a course that teaches how to bring the same level of Disney customer service into your own office. I can't wait to take the course and tell you guys all about. Have any of you taken any courses with the Disney Institute?

Alright thats my quick Monday night update! Have a great rest of the week everyone!

xoxo
Ok, Let's face it, I haven't been very good about posting my last trip which was now almost four months ago. I was so good about doing the wedding report but this has become more of a chore and I couldn't seem to figure out why. I'm still thinking it has to do with the fact that we didn't do much, Adam had an awful cold the first few days which made us very dull vacationers.

However, I want to share my pictures and give some brief stories about the things we saw and did. I know I love reading trip reports and I know other people do too. So this is my best shot at doing one for our cruise. Prepare for picture overload!

Adam was pretty sick when we arrived in key west. He was sneezing and coughing all night. I woke up, got ready, and headed out to take some pictures.

Key West was beautiful. We walked around the island, making a stop at a little convenience store to get Adam some dayquil. We didn't have an excursion planned so we walked to see the southern most point, We to the beginning of route one since we travel on route one every day where we live, had sloppy joe's at Sloppy Joe's, and made a stop much needed pit stop to get some key lime pie... because really how could you not??!!

I am totally, super, crazy, excited about the fact that I am actually seeing results in my running. I had a major set back last week but now I'm back up and running. (Literally!) For the past six years I've needed surgery on my left foot. It is something that flares up on me if I wear the wrong shoes for too long, or if I do huge amount of walking in bad shoes. I looked into surgery and honestly the surgery isn't what scares me... its the recovery time. I would be on crutches for at least 3 weeks and in a boot for up to three months. I am far to active to be out of commission that long.. especially when its something that doesn't happen all the time. Lately I've been very lucky that I haven't had any flare ups until recently.

The past few times I've gone to the gym to run I've been wearing these...

When my foot was really giving me a hard time about a year ago I looking into the Vibrams five fingers. I'd heard that they were great for people with feet issues. However I just couldn't see buying them for over $100 when I didn't even know if they would work for me and lets be honest all of these shoes look a bit funny. My sister told me about the FILA Skeletoes and that they were only $38. I figured I would give them a try and I have to say THEY WORK! Its like you've got nothing on your feet and I have to say that running in these is a totally different and better experience.

If you follow my blog I posted about running around my neighborhood last weekend. It had rained the night before that run and there were some puddles. It also was only in the high 40's low 50's. I didn't really want to have cold , wet feet while I ran so against my better judgement I put on some regular sneakers. BAD MOVE! Not only did I feel a lot more strain on my shins (that shin splint pain) but the next day I had a massive flare up in my left foot to the point where I couldn't even put any weight on it. I was so bummed out. I still went to the gym and worked out my arms and back but, I couldn't help watching everyone else on the treadmills and actually missing it!

Over the past week I read a lot about the condition I have and about what I can do to prevent flare ups. One of the things they say is to get shoes like the ones I have. Specifically the Vibrams brand. So after talking to Adam I think I'm going to invest in a pair of the Vibrams. The FILA's were fine for a while but the material is starting to come apart from the sole and they do feel cheap in comparison. Regardless of whether i'm running or not, they are better for my overall foot health so I can see spending the money on the best of the best since I'll be using them on a more everyday use. The other thing I read about to help prevent flare ups is to ice after every run. Even if my foot isn't hurting I need to ice it to stop any swelling. Thats easy enough!

My foot started feeling much better and by Saturday morning I was having no pain and I was feeling ready to get back to the gym. I got up early, put on my FILA's and hit the gym. I knew I didn't want to push it so what I did was jogged. I didn't want to focus on speed I wanted to focus on endurance.... I was so proud of myself! I told myself just to listen to my music and not even focus on how far I went. Which is something I torture myself with... I constantly look at how far I went and how long i've been running. I am so proud to announce that I wasn't even winded and I had already gone one whole mile jogging! I thought it would be fun to see exactly how far I could go! I went 1.75miles jogging! I power walked the rest of the 0.25miles to make it an even 2 miles. I was so proud. I know its not that big of a deal next to a half marathon let alone a full marathon but to me it was a great accomplishment!

Don't get me wrong I am pretty sore today but I feel great! I had so much more energy yesterday and I was in such a good mood. I started thinking that if I'm making this much progress in just a couple weeks and with a bum foot for a few days, How much can I do before the wine and dine in November?? Maybe I can convince Adam to start training with me and we can do the marathon relay! :)

How are you guys doing on your new years resolutions? If you're training for any of the Run Disney events how are you doing?

Hey guys!

Let me first start this post by saying the I whole heartedly believe that I was a southern belle in another life. I love southern food, culture, history, and my favorite golden girl is Blanche Deveroux. (hehehe) Lately I have become extremely interested in Louisiana, specifically New Orleans. Cajun cooking and the amazing music from that comes from New Orleans completely fascinate me! Enter... Disney's Princess and the Frog...

I am completely in love with this movie for so many reasons! If you've already seen it, tell me if you agree with me or not. If you've not yet seen it or are skeptical I hope I can change your mind! Here is a quick run down of why I love it!

This movie does not take place along time ago, or in a land far far away. It takes place in turn of the century New Orleans. To me, this makes the story different and appealing in a new way. The background animation in Princess and the Frog is nothing short of mini pieces of fine art. The images of Bourbon st. and the bayou are simply breathtaking and make me want to visit New Orleans so much! Don't get me wrong, imagining you can be in a castle with Cinderella is just as fun, but the idea of someday visiting New Orleans and being a part of the city that played a major role in the film is just awesome. Seriously I have no other word for it other than awesome!

Princess and the Frog is not so much of a fantasy. Although turning into a frog is totally fantasy, working as a waitress doing double shifts because you're trying to open your own restaurant can absolutely be somebody's reality. Princess Tiana doesn't become a princess until the very end of the movie. She is just a normal girl trying to do the best she can for herself. I think Disney does a good job of giving all of their princesses strong personalities, but Tiana has to be one of the strongest, with an incredible drive to achieve her dream. All Disney princesses have gone through struggles, but some how Tianna's struggle is different. She learns that working hard is very important but so is stopping to smell the roses and enjoying life! I feel like so many of us work hard and don't get to enjoy the little things enough. I thought it was a very appealing message for Disney to add to Princess and the Frog.

Prince Naveen and Lottie are hysterical! This movie is not just for girls and this movie is not just for kids either. Prince Naveen is no prince charming when we first meet him and the jokes are very funny. I found myself laughing out loud every time he came on the screen. I can totally see little boys loving his character and really enjoying the whole movie. Lottie, who is one Tiana's only friends, is the mayor of New Orleans' daughter. She makes me laugh because I think Disney created her character with people like me in mind. She believes with all her heart that if she wishes on a star hard enough, all of her dreams will come true. She is extremely girly and is very funny! Her crazy Disney-ish lease on life seems insane to everyone but her and she doesn't care. She knows that deep down she will find her prince charming and live happily ever after, and she is a great friend to Tiana. This is why she is currently my avatar on Twitter! I think any girl in my age range, who grew up on Disney princess movies would really love her character.

They went back to good hand drawn animation!!! Don't get me wrong I love Pixar but I needed a good hand drawn Disney movie. I missed movies like Lion King and Aladdin and Little Mermaid. This movie was the answer to my Disney wishes!! I really hope Disney keeps this trend moving forward.

So there you have it, a quick run down of why I absolutely loved Princess and the Frog. I am lucky enough to have an amazing husband who bought me the blu-ray for Christmas this year. If you get the chance I highly recommend checking out the bonus features on the blu-ray. They were fantastic and I loved learning about the work that went into this movie. It gave me a totally new appreciation for it.
I usually find that around this time of year I miss warm weather, being on vacation, and that warm and fuzzy Disney feeling. I think it has to do with being smack in the middle of winter, being in-between vacations and now that the holidays are over I'm not getting my warm and fuzzy feeling anymore from anything.
Luckily I have some ways of coping with my Disney withdrawal depression. One way is through my Twitter friends. I love how there is always atleast one person in the parks and a multitude of friends who wouldn't mind talking Disney with me. Another way Adam and I like to get through it is it bring alittle world showcase to us!
One of our favorite world showcase pavilions is Germany. It is tradition that we always get the bratwurst and sauerkraut with an ice cold German beer! We thought it would be fun to try our hand at it! I am happy to report that this recipe is not only pretty easy but its rather tasty as well!

While its not exactly what you'd find at Epcot its close enough! Definitely brought back some good memories, and cooking with Adam is always a fun mini adventure.
What do you do in-between vacations to help get you through??

Good morning and happy Saturday everyone!! This weekend is Disney's marathon weekend in WDW!! Good luck to all the runners and I hope to see you there next year!
Just a quick post today since I have a major amount of cleaning and laundry to do. I got up this morning with every intention of going to the gym. I told Adam that I wasn't looking forward to the crowds and he suggested I just run around our neighborhood instead.
My issue with this is, how do I time myself? How do I know how far I went? Didn't know if that was the best idea... Then a light bulb went off..there must be an app for that!!! And sure enough there is! Lol
I downloaded the iMapMyRun app and hit the road! I found a perfect little circuit through my neighborhood that was exactly a mile from the end of my drive way and back. I am happy to report that I did a whole mile in 10 minutes and 46 seconds!! That's so much better than 12 minutes! Plus I ran most of if!
I am so happy with even that little bit of progress. If I keep it up I should be able to run a 5k sooner than I know it!
Have a great weekend everyone!
**WARNING : I'm going to be ranting**

Ugh seriously I hate the gym in January! For the past year I have been a member at my local planet fitness. I wasn't training for anything, just keeping myself toned and doing the machines to get rid of my flabby arms. But now I really want to train and do cardio to get in shape enough to run in Disney. I walked into the gym today and every single treadmill taken... No lie! Every.single.one. Normally this Planet Fitness gym is pretty quiet. Never have I ever walked into this place to find all of the treadmills being used.... Except.... This time last year.

I have no problem with people using the new year as motivation, I mean I am doing it myself with this whole running thing. What I DO have a problem with, however, is the fact that I saw a group of teenage girls in full make up and hair perfectly curled walking on treadmills together looking at each others cell phones... I'm guessing updating their facebook. Then a couple treadmills away I watched a middle aged women walking on the treadmill talking on her cell phone... walk around you house while you talk on your phone! These are the people who are only going for the next few weeks just to say that they tried to keep their new years resolutions. So for the next few weeks I'll deal with the crowds and hope the people who aren't serious ween themselves out of my gym.

Since I had no other choice I hit the elliptical. I wanted to see how far I could go in half an hour. I kept my heart rate up over 175 the entire time, and I went 2.72 miles in the 30mins. I did the math and I did a mile in 11.03mins. Better than the 12mins the other day. Although I know running on a treadmill and doing the elliptical is totally different I felt like I did push myself and I felt some what accomplished. I'm hoping to get to the gym EARLY Saturday morning and beat the rush. Fingers crossed I can find an open treadmill when I get there!

How is everything going with your new years resolutions? Are you sticking to them? Let me know! Maybe we can all keep each other motivated through out the year!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08336162422136365649noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3874692255155518966.post-69447314698815585652012-01-04T20:16:00.001-05:002012-01-04T20:20:16.569-05:00OOPA!Brrrr!!!

It is so cold here today! I don't think I felt warm at all today, no matter how many layers I put on. I'm thinking as soon as I end this post my new electric heating blanket and I will spend some quality time together. I think that blanket was one of my best gifts from Adam this year!

When it gets this cold I like to cook dinners that will warm me up from the inside. I always have enjoyed a delicious soup, not that campbell's stuff in a can, but a nice home cooked, not full of sodium soup. When I was younger, and a poor college kid, I used to waitress. I made great fast cash and it fit with my class schedule quite nicely. One of the best places I worked was at a family owned and operated Greek restaurant. Being a foodie who loves to try new ethnic cuisine (remember I purposely picked my Disney wedding date to coincide with Epcot's food and wine festival) I developed a new love for all things Greek! My favorite quick snack before a shift on a cold night was a steamy hot bowl of Avgolemono soup. Avgolemono soup is a thick, lemon, chicken soup. It reminds me of American chicken noodle soup, just with more pizzaz! It is a favorite in my household and recently I brought some left overs into work and my coworker loved it.

Unfortunately I did not get the recipe from the restaurant that I worked at. But this recipe that I use from Closet Cooking is almost identical. If you're looking for a yummy, warm you from the inside out soup, this is definitely something I'd recommend trying out. It's pretty simple and I'd love to hear what you think of it!
This it my first attempt at a blog post from my phone so bear with me :)
I feel like I have a major holiday hangover. I'm totally exhausted, my sleep pattern is all kinds of warped, and I just ache all over. Anyone else feel this way after the holidays? If you do, what helps get you out of it and back to your normal routine quickly? I feel like I should be back on track by now...

Anyway since I am exhausted I decides to crawl into bed and enjoy one of my Christmas presents from Adam. He bought me the Walt Disney biography I wanted. It is called "Walt Disney: an American original " and its by bob Thomas. I asked around and heard from multiple people that, of all the Disney biographies ,this was the best. I'm only about three chapters in but so far I've learned some very interesting facts about my hero Walt.

Once I'm done with the book I'm hoping to write a full fledged grade school book report/review for your reading pleasure :)

Have any of you read any biographies about Walt, the nine old men or anything Disney history related? What would you recommend? I would love to hear your thoughts and reviews!

Off to do more reading and catch some shut eye!

Xoxo

Some of them are just for me personally, and some of them are going to effect "Making My Fairy Tale". I'm really excited about all of my resolutions for 2012 and hopefully I'll be able to keep them through out the year!

Let's get the typical resolutions out of the way first...

I want to start running! More specifically I want to start running enough so that I can confidently run in a Disney Marathon. I really tested myself last Friday to see where I was at... it wasn't good. I know everyone has to start somewhere but I feel like the most out of shape person in the world. I ran for half a mile and then power walked the rest of the mile. It took me 12 mins to do the mile... boo!! I'm not going to let it discourage me and I'm determined to get better and not feel like I'm going to vomit half way through! This is part of my total plan to get healthy, which leads me to my second resolution.

Adam and I are not going to be eating out as much as we do anymore! Like I said in my last post I LOVE cooking and baking. I'm going to work on cooking healthier by using more organic produce and trying out new healthier recipes.

My last personal resolution is to carry my bubbly personality and patience through out the day. What I mean by that is... When I go to work I am happy, bubbly, and personable with my co workers and the patients that come in to the office. However when I get home, some of my bubbles fall flat. I'm exhausted from the long commute, I put all of my patience into dealing with the patients and sometimes I am not the happy go lucky Disney fan girl that I know I can be. I'm going to work on remembering that my husband and my puppies are my everything and they deserve all my lovin' and good mood too! Being more self aware is sure to help me keep this resolution! :)

For Making My Fairy Tale my resolutions are...

I NEED TO POST MORE OFTEN!!! I've said this before and I'll say it again! This time I'm going to do something about it. I've downloaded the Blogger App on my phone and even if i can't take the time to post a long post, like this one, I'm hoping to post even little things from on the go.

I'm also going to post and take more pictures. As you can see I've got myself a fun new camera! I bought a used 2004 Cannon Rebel. I know its old and used BUT as someone who loves photography but is no professional photographer I couldn't see spending all kinds of money on a brand new one. I'm looking forward to taking it on Disney trips and basically everywhere I go.

The last thing I want to do is post about things other than Disney... PLEASE HOLD THE GASPS! I know its considered sacrilege by some but there is a reason I want to do this. I'm a pretty well rounded person who does like things other than Disney. I want to give you all a look into what makes me ME! Who knows?.. maybe some of the other stuff I like, you like! Do accomplish this I want to post about the different recipes I try, my love of Soccer, photography, my progress with running, ect. I'll still do the trip reports and talk Disney stuff so please don't panic! :)

So those are my resolutions for this year! I'm hoping that this time next year I can look back at this post and feel accomplished. (fingers crossed!) What are your resolutions for 2012??

I know I've been MIA for a couple weeks but family commitments, work, and the holidays got in the way a bit. Trust me when I say there were times that I wished I was blogging! :)

I have some great ideas for "Making My Fairy Tale" and one of my New Years resolutions is to blog much more often! I always feel great when I blog and writing was always a thing that I loved doing since I was in elementary school. I can be me without worrying about others judging me and I find it so much fun to share interests, trips, tips, and other fun things with people who are like minded.

Since we are saying a fond farewell to 2011, I thought it would be nice to end the year with a post recapping the things that happened to me this year that will forever remind me that amazing things do happen and every day is a new adventure that shape who we are as people.

- I joined twitter in 2011 and met some amazing people! The highlight was being able to meet some of those people in Walt Disney World this past fall. Adam and I also made friends with a couple on our cruise who were just like us... only from the midwest! We laughed and had so much fun with them! In only a weeks time I felt like we had made life long friends! We booked out next cruise together and I can't wait to see them in September 2012.

- I found a love for all things cooking. In my life I spent a good amount of time bouncing around and never got to explore my love for cooking in my own kitchen. This year however i was able to find new recipes, techniques, and a passion for cooking. I came from a home where, as a child, my dad would cook all the time and he taught me a lot. There is nothing I love more than working in the kitchen to create a delicious, healthy meal and seeing the family and friends eating it with pure bliss on their faces!

- I went out of the country!!! Up until 2011 I had only visited places along the east coast. (Disney mostly of course) But this year not only did we do our first cruise aboard the Disney Magic, but I left the country. Everything about it, from getting our passports to going through customs, was an adventure. We now have a new love of cruising and visiting new places!

- This year me and my best friend from cross the pond decided that its time to get the pond out of the way and meet in person. Stacey and I started planning our highly anticipated meet up for 2012. This makes me uber excited! Stacey and I have been friends for years, we skype, email, tweet, and FB each other almost every day and the chance to meet her in person is totally epic!

- I got a new job! For the longest time I felt terrible about myself regarding my employment status. My late high school/early college years were very hard for me for personal reasons. After two years of college the right thing to do was to get a job and move into my own place and figure out who I was as a person. I became a secretary and was one from 2006 to 2011. I always felt that I was not living up to my full potential. I was very depressed about it. Whenever people would ask me what I did for a living I would hate answering "I'm just a secretary..." I knew if someone would just give me a chance I could prove that I was more than that! I am happy to report that someone did give me that chance and I am now an Accounts Manager for a dental office! I was so thrilled about it personally that I think I may have scared some of my co workers with my enthusiasm but I can't tell you what a relief it is to me to have more responsibility and feel like I have a job with a purpose.

These are just a few of the many highlights from 2011. I am looking forward to 2012 and tomorrow I'll have a new post about all the things I'm looking forward to, resolutions, and I promise to update my trip report! :)

Have a fantastic New Years Eve everyone! Be healthy, happy, and safe tonight!

I've done tons of online shopping and experimenting with different cookie recipes! The holiday warm and fuzzies are in full swing! Last week we talked about how sending out Christmas cards gave me the warm and fuzzies. Tonight we're going to talk about O' Christmas tree!

Normally Adam and I have always gotten real trees. Last year we got a lovely tree, it was one of our biggest yet and I was totally in love with it. However my loving puppies kept drinking the water from the tree stand and whenever they bumped into it TONS of the needles would fall off. I tried to convince Adam to get a real tree again this year but he was pretty adamant that he didn't want to deal with the hassle again. I looked online at some department store websites and all of the fake trees were so expensive! I brought this to Adam's attention and I suggested that maybe get one last real tree and then right after Christmas when all of the fake trees go on sale we'll get one for Christmas 2012. Which he agreed too.

On black Friday we decided we would go get out Christmas tree. On the way out the door Adam asked if we could stop at Home Depot so that he could buy a new drill set that was at an awesome price. FINE! ugh men! We get to Home Depot and right at the entrance is a beautiful fake tree that was originally $150 for only $49.99 on black Friday only! There were only 5 left and we decided we would snatch it.

We got it home, turned on the Christmas Pandora station and got out the decorations. Every year since Adam and I have been together, we've LOVED decorating the tree together. Something about working together to make the tree as beautiful and festive as possible gives me.... the Warm and Fuzzies!!

Without further ado... here is our tree!

Are you a tech fan? Do you have kids that love being active, playing in the dirt, and enjoy learning? Do your kids love animals? Well then you’re in luck! I’ve recently come to know an amazing person who has created an iPad App geared to kids ages 7-12. The app is called WILDRZ (www.wildrz.com). Below is a description about the app and about the creator.

WILDRZ: Turtle Trouble iPad app for kids ages 7-12

Taking a step forward in multimedia storytelling, "WILDRZ: Turtle Trouble" is a Graphic Novel+ app in development for the iPad. Aimed at children ages 7 to 12, "WILDRZ: Turtle Trouble" (www.wildrz.com) weaves comics of three fictional siblings with a real-life biologist to protect a turtle breeding ground that also happens to be a suburban soccer field.

Combining 60 pages of comics, 10 mini-games, 20 minutes of video featuring a turtle biologist, access to the biologist's blog, and additional content, WILDRZ (pronounced "Wild-ers") brings children into the action, including 230 speech balloons in the comics that readers can record using their own voices.

WILDRZ takes advantage of multimedia technology available on the iPad -- telling a fun, rich, interactive and compelling story about real-life animals in jeopardy and the three fictional siblings who help save those animals. My team and I are developing an app that kids will enjoy playing and parents will feel good purchasing because the WILDRZ Graphic Novel+ app lets kids experience the adventure of saving wildlife from the safety of their iPads.

I am a former producer for Hasbro Interactive's Tonka line of computer and console game software, an app developer and award-winning photographer, using Kickstarter (www.wildrz.com), a funding platform for artists, designers, and filmmakers, to raise the $100,000 needed to finish development of the WILDRZ app.

Additionally, by supporting WILDRZ on Kickstarter at various levels, backers can purchase great holiday gifts like:

Backers can name the turtle, receive a photo and get periodic updates on her from the field.

Get transported into the WILDRZ universe with your likeliness or that of a loved one drawn as a character into the WILDRZ story line.

The Kickstarter initiative ends Dec. 25th.

Ok so why am I helping promote this? Other than the fact that Paul is a great guy and I would love to see this project take off, I see a lot of this as being EXTREMELY Disney-esque. Walt Disney was all about education through entertainment, and using the most modern technology to do it. At EPCOT’s Innoventions all of the exhibits and games are very technological and promote learning through fun! The WILDRZ app would fit nicely in EPCOT don’t you agree?

As it stands now, WILDRZ still needs to reach that goal of $100,000.00 in order for it to continue to be developed. I would love to see this App really take off, not only because of all the work Paul has put into it, but also because there are so many mindless things on TV and on the internet. This is something I’m sure kids would love (Heck I love it!) and they would learn something too. I think it would make a wonderful holiday gift! Thinking down the road it would give your kiddo something to do on the plane ride to Disney ;)

If you’d like to help the WILDRZ hit that goal and continue to make more episodes please tweet, facebook, or word of mouth it, to anyone you think might be interested in it. Paul has many more episodes lined up that I’m sure the children in your life would love!

Hey guys! Hope you're all getting into the holiday spirit! It's almost time for the weekend! woohoo! Now let's get back to our fantastic voyage trip report.

After our little bus ride we pulled into Port Canaveral. Our first glimpse of the Disney Magic was simply breath taking! I couldn’t stop bouncing up and down in my seat. I couldn’t wait for the bus to park so I could trample... Uhh.... I mean get off the bus in an orderly fashion.

When we entered the amazing atrium we were greeted by a CM who was wearing a white naval looking suit. She asked who we were and what stateroom we were in. I told her and she pointed us in the direction we needed to go... as we started walking we hear over the loud speaker... “DISNEY CRUISE LINE, LET’S GIVE A BIG WELCOME TO THE ‘Z’ FAMILY!!!”.... Oh Em Geeeee!!! I could’ve died I was so excited! Adam and I were laughing and thought it was so cool!

I’m going to now share with you a tip... I’m sure there are people out there who think this is a good idea but looking back on it I think I could’ve spent the money on something else but either way here are my two cents...As we were walking down the hall to try and find out stateroom a CM asked us if we would like to purchase a case of bottled waters and a DCL beer mug. Had I not been in a state of over stimulation I probably would NOT have bought the case of water. The DCL glass beer mug did come in handy for Adam but the more I think about it now the whole case of water thing was a dumb purchase on our part... i mean all non-alcoholic beverages on the boat are free. Why were we paying for water? We did take two of them with us to key west because it was really really hot that day but honestly that was it. Towards the end of our cruise we actually were TRYING to drink them because we didn’t want to leave full bottles behind. But that is just my opinion of it...

Ok so after our water purchase we found the nearest elevators and took it to deck 6. Our stateroom # was 6635. We were told that they were currently delivering all of the luggage and that ours should be there by now. We got off of the elevator and looked at the signs posted on the walls. We found the one that had our stateroom # on it and started our adventure down the hall. It was utter CHAOS! There were people walking up and down the tiny hall trying to find their rooms, CM’s putting luggage in front of the stateroom doors, families with too much luggage cause traffic jams in the halls... holy moly I was feeling VERY claustrophobic! We finally found our stateroom and we couldn’t get in it fast enough!

This leads to my next piece of advise. (I have many from this trip) If you’ve never been on a cruise ship and you have no idea what is going on when you first get on board... ITS OK! DO NOT PANIC! I’m saying this because Adam and I were freaked out enough just trying to find the room, never mind what we discovered when we entered the room. They are TINY! Adam and I started to get nervous that maybe we had made a mistake and should’ve stayed at WDW. So, if you are new to cruising or to tiny spaces in general mentally prepare yourself for this experience.

After some deep breathing we decided it would probably be better to go to one of the top decks to get some fresh air. We explored the top decks of the ship until it was time to leave Port Canaveral. I think we both felt much better learning where things were on the ship and getting to know our surroundings. I would’ve taken more pictures but there were too many people out and about and in my way!

Before we knew it the announcement came over the loud speaker that it was time for the sail away party. I LOVED the sail away party. I got my little streamer and danced around waving it around. This is a quick video of the building at port canaveral and deck 10 at the very beginning of the party... you can see some streamers and hear the music.

Sadly Adam wasn’t into it as much as I was. Looking at him I knew he wasn’t feeling well. After the sail away paty we went back to the stateroom and relaxed until it was time for dinner.

This was probably the best decision we made that day. Adam climbed into bed and took a nap while I figured out how to utilize the space in the room. Another tip for first time cruisers... Take the time to empty your clothes and belongings out of the suitcases and organize them! Use the closet, shelves, ect. I felt much better after everything was organized. The room seemed bigger when everything was in its place.

This is where I’m going to end... I hope all the pics and the video redeem my last trip report post. Now lets recap...

1.) Unless you know you’ll need it I wouldn’t spend the money to buy the case of water. All non-alcoholic beverages are free on the boat. If anything bring your own water bottle from home and use that.

2.) Do NOT panic and mentally prepare yourself to be a bit overwhelmed when first getting on board and seeing how tiny your stateroom is.

Today is Walt Disney's birthday. He was an amazing man, innovator, entrepreneur, and human being. He was so full of life, love, and dreams! From his vision came some of the most amazing theme parks, movies, cartoons, inventions, ect. There isn't enough I can say about him so I'm not even going to try!

It is because of him that I am the way I am... A big kid, day dreamer, and always trying to make my own life as much as a fairy tale as it can possibly be. (Notice the title of my blog) And to be honest I wouldn't want to be any other way! He is one of my favorite people and I admire all he accomplished.

That being said HAPPY BIRTHDAY WALT DISNEY!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08336162422136365649noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3874692255155518966.post-67641805269578854522011-12-04T07:53:00.001-05:002011-12-04T08:50:25.793-05:00We're on a BOAT!!...AlmostGood Morning and Happy Sunday everyone! I know I've taken a couple posts to write about other things but its time to get back to the trip report.

This was our first Disney Cruise, which means this is the first trip report I've ever done for a cruise. Writing trip reports about Disney World is always so easy and interesting because we're always out in the parks doing something. With the cruise we were vacationing at a much slower pace. That's not to say that we didn't do tons of stuff... it was just tons of stuff with lots of relaxation in between. The other thing (which I will get into shortly) is that my poor Adam got sick. Not seasick but he got a nasty cold that left him a bit cranky, and he didn't want to do a whole lot the first couple days onboard. The reason I'm saying all this is so that I can prepare you.. I don't know how good this is going to be! hahaha!

October 1st, as I'm sure you know, was the 40th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom. I woke up that morning knowing that we would be heading to the boat in a few hours. We got a letter from the Magical Express Department telling us that a cast member would be coming to our room by 8am to pick up our luggage and they would be transporting it to the ship. I, of course, was up at 6am and I worked tirelessly to get everything together. A pile of stuff we needed to board the ship, and a pile that could go with the cast member. While I was doing that I was constantly checking my twitter feed reading about all the cool things that were going to be happening at Magic Kingdom today. It was very cool that even though I was not at the park I was still able to feel like I was participating. I finished packing and put the bags by the door. I tested the waters and tried to wake Adam. He wasn't moving! He also was sniffling and coughing... uh oh. I tried not to read too much into it and jumped in the shower to get ready.

When I was all ready I waited around until the cast member came to pick up our luggage. When he left I tried one more time to wake sleeping beauty. That failed so I left him a note telling him I was going for a walk and off I went. I really do love these walks alone that I have when I'm in WDW. This becomes true also on the ship... you'll find out later that since Adam was not up to doing many things on the ship due to being sick, I did a lot solo and I really enjoyed it!... But more on that later.

When I got to the lobby of the Wilderness Lodge Villas I noticed a big group of cast members setting something up. I walked over and asked what they were doing. They told me that since Walt loved trains they were setting up a toy train station in honor of the 40th. HOW COOL!!! They even put up a big banner saying "Happy 40th Birthday!" I looked in my purse to see if I had my camera but I didn't I left it in the room. In hind sight I wished I'd gone back to get it but at the time I didn't want to bother Adam. If anyone knows anything more about this or has a picture of it completed I would love to see it. I had literally gotten there as they were just starting to set up so I didn't see the finished product.

I left the cast members alone to finish their work and went outside. It was a beautiful day! Not too hot and there was a lovely breeze. I went over to the beach area and sat in a lounge chair to watch the boats go by bringing guests to Magic Kingdom. It was so peaceful and relaxing. There is no where I'd rather be than on that beach hearing the boat horns, and in the distance the Magic Kingdom train whistle. There is also no where more relaxing for me! I don't know about you but I always feel like nothing bad can touch me when I'm in disney.. its just too magical! hahaha

After sitting there for a while my phone rang. It was Adam and he sounded TERRIBLE! NOOOO!!!! He said he didn't feel good at all and he wanted to grab some breakfast and orange juice to see it that would help make him feel better. I told him to jump in a nice hot shower to get some steam to help with the congestion and that I'd be back in the room shortly and we'd go get breakfast.

**Before I went back to the room I went to the gift shop and bought an awesome Disney sweatshirt and tank top that matched it. It was on clearance! I knew if I went in the store with Adam he'd talk me out of it... It was my only chance! hahahaha**.......Anyway.....

Adam and I gathered all of our things after he was ready and we left the room to check out. We had to be in the lobby for the cruise at 11:00... by now it was almost 9:30. I called the front desk and told them we would be out of the room. They checked us out automatically and they told us to have a great time on our cruise. We walked over to the roaring fork to grab a quick service breakfast.

While making our way to the Roaring Fork I was tweeting (because I'm always tweeting lol) and I started talking with another awesome twitter friend of mine, Kelly. She told me that she was at the Wilderness Lodge boat launch and she would be heading over to Magic Kingdom for the 40th. I didn't want to slow down her plans knowing that with Adam being sick I didn't want to rush him around. I told her the situation and to have a good time. We got in line at the roaring fork and who comes running in? Kelly! She said the boat was on its way but she wanted to quickly say hello! I gave her a big hug and we chatted quickly. She told me to have an awesome time on the cruise and I told her to enjoy the 40th! I wish I had gotten a picture with her but it happened so fast that I wasn't even thinking! It was so cool that in two days of being at WDW I got to see three Disney friends that I talked to via twitter or Facebook and was actually able to meet them in person!

After we ate we decided to walk through the Lobby and enjoy the scenery. We sat in a couple of rocking chairs and people watched. Adam's eyes were all glossy and he was sneezing and coughing like crazy. I bought him a bottle of water and made him an airborne to drink. I felt so bad that he was so excited for this cruise and now he was miserably sick. I couldn't think of anything worse.

Before too long we saw a women come into the lobby wearing a blue jacket that said Disney Cruise Line on it and carrying a DCL clipboard. WOOHOO! Adam and I grabbed our carry-ons and went right up to her. She checked our passports and information and told us to hang out in the lobby for about 15mins while we waited for other guests and for the bus to arrive.

::FAST FORWARD 15MINS::

It was time to line up single file (I felt like a kid lining up for recess) and make our way to the Magical Express Bus. Leaving WDW was kind of hard. There were attractions I missed and I kind of wanted the opportunity to meet more friends that I knew were in the world. Dare I say that I almost felt like I was cheating on WDW but doing the Disney Cruise. Driving through the WDW main gate and saying goodbye was kind of a bummer but the bus TV's turned on and we watched a movie all about DCL and what we can do on board! This got me so excited! Definitely made the guilt of leaving melt away...

WOW... I didn't realize that I had such a busy morning lol. This post is really long and I have much more to write about. I'm going to stop here. I have pictures galore for the cruise so I promise there won't be too many more posts of all words and no picture fun.

Enjoy your Sunday! :)
I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by... It seems like only yesterday the year 2011 got started. But time flies when you're having fun!

With the holidays approaching extremely fast I like to try and do something that gives me the warm and fuzzies as often as I can. The week after Thanksgiving is when I start sending out my Christmas cards. Before we were married I just bought Disney Christmas themed cards in bulk at a drug store, signed them, and sent them out. But the past two years, since we're married, I've been sending out cards with our pictures on them.

This is last years....
I thought doing a fun, informal Christmas card this year would be a good change from last years. I love the font that the "happy Holidays" are written in and we used pictures from our last WDW and DCL trip.

Sending out Christmas Cards always gives me that warm fuzzies :) I know it is easy to just send a FB or Twitter shout out but something about getting mail is so romantic to me. I know I love giving and getting Christmas cards in the mail. I've already started calling Adam every day after work and asking him if we got any in the mail yet. (He gets home from work before me)

What do you do to get that warm and fuzzy feeling in the weeks that are leading up to the Holidays??

(Part 2)After we arrived at the Wilderness Lodge we were so hot from Animal Kingdom that we decided to take a dip in the pool. We stopped in at the roaring fork and bought a pizza to snack on and a couple of beers. The main pool was pretty packed so we walked over to the villas pool. (don't worry we were villas guests, I wasn't stealing the villas pool) It was much quieter and other than one other family we were the only other people in the pool.

After the dip in the pool and a quick shower we were off to EPCOT for the food and wine festival. I must say... A dip in the pool followed by a mid-afternoon shower and costume change really helped reenergize us. The first attraction we always do when we get to EPCOT is spaceship earth. It is so nostalgic and it always gets me in that EPCOT mood. :)

After Spaceship earth I got a Direct message on twitter from the always sweet Nicole. I met Nicole through the Disney Driven Life and her blog NjoyLife is one of my favorites. I met up with her at Test track and it was like seeing an old friend! She was totally sweet and walking around world showcase with her was so fun. It was a brief meeting but an awesome one.
After we said good bye to Nicole it was time to get our food and drink on! we headed back to the beginning of world showcase to Mexico. Now you'll have to forgive me... I didn't write down everything we ate and drank.. Even if I did I think that the amount of drink we consumed would've led to us forgetting to write it down anyway. Just know that we started in mexico, and ended with Greece. We went all the way around!

After world showcase kicked out butts it was time to hit up a couple future world rides. One thing i can't stand about going to WDW in the fall is the short park hours! I completely forgot that future world closes at 7pm. Luckily we made it to the last showing of Captain EO that night... we literally ran in as the women was closing the doors! No matter how old this is I still Love it! As a huge michael fan and someone who grew up in the 80s I thoroughly enjoy this attraction.

After EO we moonwalked our way over to the Seas with Nemo. Normally we spend a long time in the aquarium area after exiting the clam mobiles. However Adam was not feeling all that well so I did a quick walk through and then we were out of there. We had one more must do and that was test track. The stand by queue was only a 20min wait so we jumped in line. Half way through the line i felt myself fading and Adam was looking alittle pale. Test track was awesome as usual, but once we got out of the building we were headed right to the buses. I was really sad that we didn't stay until Illuminations but knowing we were leaving for the cruise the next day I didn't want to risk either of us being off of our game.
